Club Monaco's Trenchette

The rain shower this morning made me think of my spring outerwear. How is it possible that I don't have a durable trench?? I have a short one that I'm not in love with anymore so that's been ignored and will be set aside.

I trolled online and of course Club Monaco will give me exactly what I need. According to the site, the Rochelle Trenchette is made from "memory shape, water resistant fabric". That description sounds about right to me for a functional trench.

I'm particularly taken by the soft blue one in the middle. It's a nice light color to break up an otherwise wet, dreary day.

Spring Heat + Busy. Busy. Busy

Friday felt like Spring, the weekend felt like summer sneaked in on us. Where did Spring go?!?!?! My dad and brother's family drove up to Vermont today for work/pleasure and will be back on Tuesday. They're going to ice cream heaven. The Ben & Jerry's plant. My dad wanted me to go and was convincing me to cut class tomorrow. My, my the tables sure have turned. You know you're older when your father encourages you to miss school for a road trip. But being the nerd that I am, I passed. I have a paper/presentation I need to nail down by Thursday which still needs a lot of work. Bait noh? Paying for your own way is a huge factor too. Rain or shine, in sickness and in health, I am there. Last March, a snowstorm hit us in effect cancelling classes, I remember feeling disappointed. Finals are in two weeks time and I am sooo ready to attack them. I just need to get through the projects first. Tests are simpler, you study, take them and it's a done deal. Projects on the flipside seem to never end. There's always, always a way to make it better. I've also accepted an offer to intern at LVMH-Celine's showroom this summer. That should be interesting. Hopefully, my plan works out and I can do two internships.

My shoti and I had lunch today at trusty Baumgart's Cafe at Edgewater. (Nets, this was where I took you). They serve Chinese/American food diner style. There's a branch in our city but we opted to take the short drive because I wanted to sit out in the sun. As the name suggests, it is by the water with an ok view of Manhattan. After stuffing our faces with spicy tuna/salmon salad, chunky lobster and chicken sandwich, waffles, cheese omelettes and lemonades, I drove ourselves home. I dozed off on my brother's bed soon after and napped for four hours. I think I've been tired since school started in January, just throwing my focus on what should be done, the heat today forced me to s-l-o-w down.

Hopefully, the trains don't smell tomorrow from the sudden rise in temperature. The swine flu outbreak is a little freaky as well. Anyways, I have to work on that designer paper/presentation now. Just warming up with a blog.

Have a great week everyone!

We're Frrrrrozen!!!

My weather widget says it all for the rest of the week. Days like these I miss PI weather. But hey, I read somewhere once before that "There are no bad winters, only bad clothing." Let's dress appropriately shall we? Correct layering and keep your extremities covered!!!

Man, I can use a giant bowl of steaming hot ramen now.

Take Me To Vegas With You

If you look out my window now, you would want a trip to Vegas. The snow is just falling, falling and falling. It's all white and pretty now but by tomorrow, it'll be horrible to clean up and drive in.

Anyways, my good friend May asked me to throw some ideas around on what to wear to go out on a trip to Vegas with her HS barkada in January. Since the forecast says that the weather was going to be between 50-60F, one still has to layer up! Although coming from the Northeast where it's the dead of winter, skin in moderation is in order. Here are two outfits that can be taken a notch up or down.

#1
A fun, detailed colored top (let's leave the monochromatic NY blacks home for now)

+
a mini skirt (wool/ dark denim, your choice)

+
A sleek pair of tall knee boots (notice the sliver wedge on this one, I personally am not keen on sky high heels with minis)

#2

A lacy (racy) top
+
A pair of fun pants (or dark denim skinnies)

+
booties!!! (pop of color anyone?)

With the following accessory suggestions: cabochon or dangling earrings and cocktail rings (wear more than one).

And a good size envelope clutch like this

Also, Bring a scarf that can double as a shrug/shawl, maybe even a blazer to ward off the chill when the temperature dips.

P.S. May, enjoy Vegas in January -- looking at what I came up with, I'm not exactly sure if it's even "Vegas" at all. What is Vegas dressing anyway??? kKKKkKk. Show them your NY chic-ness na lang!!!

Say It Isn't So

Aaaah, we like the fall/winter (layering, boots, scarves, gloves, craving for ramen/congee/tea etc) but not when you have to dig yourself out of snow to get to/fro work. So say it isn't so...

Retailers’ New Grim Reaper: Heavy Snow Ahead

Just when it seemed like things couldn’t get worse, there’s a new forecast that retailers could take another hit in November and December. Weather Trends International, a firm that works with retailers such as Wal-Mart and Kohl’s on global weather forecasting, says there will be more snow than usual, including the week of Christmas, and that could keep shoppers away from stores.
Cold weather is generally good for retailers as the holidays approach because it spurs purchases of cold-weather gear and winter apparel. In fact, fall sales have risen in economic slowdowns when the weather is cold, Bill Kirk, chief executive of Weather Trends, told analysts at J.P. Morgan Friday morning, in a conference call that we checked out.
“If a month is 1 degree colder, we get a 1.1% lift so let’s say it’s 4 degrees colder, you get a 4% lift in comps,” said Mr. Kirk. He said he analyzed the five-biggest economic slowdowns of the last 24 years and noted that weather changes had a bigger impact on sales in those period than eroding consumer confidence.

“In this economy, it’s very much need-driven,” he said. He pointed to April, when consumers had already begun dialing back spending, and said that warm weather encouraged shoppers to purchase spring items, pushing sales at stores open at least a year 3.5% higher than the same month a year earlier.
Mr. Kirk predicted that October’s cold, dry weather will help retailers—he forecasts an average increase in same store sales of greater than a 2.1%. Heavy snow is expected in November, he said, adding: “Not a good start to the holiday shopping season.”
Dry but cold weather will help retailers early in December, he predicted. If consumers open their wallets during the first three weeks of the month, Mr. Kirk said retailers will do well. But if that doesn’t happen, retailers will have another “bad month” because snow is expected in the final shopping days before Christmas, said Mr. Kirk, who expects November same-store sales to show an increase of “well below 2%” and the December figure to rise 1.5% to 2% over a year ago.
Looking ahead to spring, warm weather bodes well, he said. “Spring 2009 will be one of the hottest in seven or eight years,” Mr. Kirk said. “It should be a golden opportunity if things get back to normal by (the first quarter) of next year.”

Finally

There comes a time in September when you start your day with a sweater/light jacket, take it off mid day and end it with an extra blanket at night to ward off the slight chill. My weather forecast widget tells me it's official. Layering season is finally here!!

Seasonal Sheets

It's that time of the year again. The weather has been purrfect. It's not just our clothes that need to transition but our beddings too. I do this for both aesthetic and practical/functional reasons. I have two duvet sets. One from Tommy Hilfiger Home and Ikea which I HATE and want to burn. It's just so scratchy and wrinkly so I've been overusing the TH striped one. I've been searching for an Ikea replacement since the middle of February. I chose a light blue with hydrangeas set from Simply Shabby Chic's Collection for Target. It was ALWAYS sold out I was ready to give up. My bed's size finally became available last week. I've been stalking Target every week for two months.

Last night, it was "bye bye see you in October" to my off-white eyelet flannel sheets and down comforter. Hello to my trusty white/light blue polka dot sheets and brand new duvet set. Have a look. I am pleased.

A Snow Day Puhleez

aaaaah!! I hope when I call our EZCO hotline tomorrow morning I hear these sweet words, "You have reached Ermenegildo Zegna Corporation. Due to inclement weather, our offices will be closed today." I hate driving in snow. Such a pain.
I want my first snow day this winter!!!! let it snow! let it snow! let it snow!!!

I See A New Season

ALREADY. Fall's not officially over date wise but the weather's taken us to straight into winter. It's been snowing on and off the whole week and I'm starting to see Spring (subtle florals, swim wear, tunics, sandals etc..) merchandise in stores. Boy oh boy, oras nga naman kay bilis. My work has been nothing but about cleaning out fall/winter and getting spring/cruise/summer out. Was stuck in a meeting until about 630pm today and I didn't get to leave until past 7 catching up on my own work and answering never ending emails. Buti na lang gusto ko ginagawa ko. I hardly ever leave past 5pm. Out the door pronto to! haha :) Prioritize and conquer every single day ata mantra ko sa work.
Same ball game ulit bukas. Ika nga, thank god it's friday!!! Time to check out stores again :) Check out lang, no buying allowed!

Flying May

May is out the window soon thanks to two visits from long time friends and an upcoming trip to LA. I should make a list of what to write about. I should write them down before I go on that trip as I'll have more to talk about when I get back.

And again there's a story I've wanted to tell for so long. My side of the story. I've actually written it down, I had to delete it. I want a different tone. A different feel to it. Not one of spite, but one of a lesson learned. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to do it, but right now I still feel that I have to. For closure? I'm not sure. Maybe I'll even change my mind. But for now, I know it's a story I should tell.

Today I am thankful for
- last night's mojitos (mango & apple), asian sangria & a shot of tequila

And We Thought It Was Over

It was 70F on Wednesday and then we got hit by a snowstorm Thursday. It wasn't a blizzard but it was not the good kind of snow fall. It wasn't nice powdery kind. You get pelted by tiny ice granules. I had to effing clean my car twice. Once before going to work, the second time when we were sent home early. Annoying. I was slipping and sliding getting in and out of parking lots. WINTER BE GONE ALREADY!!! It's officially Spring tomorrow.

Fall Extension

The weather's been weird! Global warming is indeed happening! We should be bundled up in winter's finest by this time of the year. But no, we're still in our light sweaters instead of down puffer coats. I bet retail chains took a hit in outerwear sales this year. I would kill to see Old Navy's trend/sales reports!!! That did it for me then. I'd get high analyzing weekly sales and playing god over inventory. Hehe =) Nerd. There's no snow forecast yet either. We'll probably end up paying for this blessed weather come February. tsk! tsk!

So I've been hitting my favorite stores. After Christmas sales are yummy!!! Although I'm vowing to stop it with the fall/winter goods after this week. Spring/cruise collections are slowly making their appearances already. And my closet is starting to reach its bursting point once again. We really have to convert our small attic into storage. I should make that into a project come spring.

Today I am thankful for:
- being able to talk with my real good friends from the PI
- snapping up fab cashmere sweaters from club monaco

Snow White

They say it's our first blizzard for the season. I looked out my window this morning and saw so much beauty. Fresh, powdery snow. If you lived in the tropics ALL your life. Seeing snow is a big deal. Hmm... I'm not sure if I'd eat my words give or take a few more years down the road though. Anyway, it still amazes me up to now. There I was just staring, aching to share / blurt out what I see with someone. Serenity. Bliss. I wasn't 'Chinese-named' Snow White for no reason I guess.

I saw one thing that made me crash for a bit. I know I have to 'ready' myself. This will keep happening unless I cut out some people in my life. This I don't want to do. It's stupid and childish. Shake it off. There are other things worth writing about like last Friday. I'll get to that.

Snow fall has eased up by now. It's up to my knee already, maybe more. Let's just play pictionary shall we?!

My Mini Dec '05 vs. Feb '06

SNOW SNOW SNOW!!!
Today I am thankful for:
- men's scarves, they're just wider & longer (read:warmer)
- the four seasons, I'm almost there...
