I've been planning to try the infamous Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity for the longest time. It seemed like the more I planned the the day, the more it wasn't going to happen. Last Tuesday, on our way home from the DMV at Queens, we decided to just pass by and see if there wasn't too long of a line. The wait to get a table on really busy days takes around two hours. The guy at the door said that it was only about an hour so we decided to wait it out. The interiors of the restaurant/general store was smaller than what I expected. They sold humorous and silly stuff right by the door. Everything from pom-pom rings, lip balm, body detergent (?) to these funny pens with characters (aliens, kermit the frog etc...) atop that can box each other. We were seated on the second floor by the window which gave us a good view of the street. The restaurant decor was really quirky with all sorts of old-fashioned Tiffany lamps, dolls, airplanes, paintings, signages etc... hanging from the ceiling. It was amusing to look up and check them out. I know I'm talking about food but can I just mention the old-fashioned bathroom?? Sorry... You pulled a chain string which released the flushing water from a water closet mounted above. I thought that was cool. hehe ;)
We ordered this meat loaf dish (I didn't think meat loaf could taste so good!), summer bries sandwich (turkey breast, apples, alfalfa sprouts, brie cheese and Russian dressing on pumpernickel toast, yum-yum!!!) and the Frozen Desserts of course. It's weird but we asked the server to bring out the dessert first before the main meal because we just couldn't wait for it. haha! The Frozen Hot Chocolate was no disappointment! It was a huge dessert bowl of chocolate goodness. The chocolate-y slush was topped with a huge dollop of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. OH YUM! Then it was time for the Forbidden Broadway Sundae. It was another huge bowl of dessert happiness. It had this real fudge-y slice of chocolate cake (Kapow!! to cloud 9), a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, chocolate chips, whipped cream and chocolate shavings. It's making me weak just thinking about it now. My dessert spoon had a mind of it's own!!! =) It was sooo good that my sister-in-law's sister and I have decided to head off to the grocery and re-create it on our own. I hope it turns out real good too! haha! We're definitely going back for another taste of their uber delicious 'cuizine'. We took a few pictures, I'll be posting them later on. One item on 43 Things ticked! =)
