Book Notes: One For My Baby

From One For My Baby by Tony Parsons:

- When you come back home after living abroad, you see your country with the eyes of a time traveler.

- Personally I don't believe you can steal one human being from another. You can't steal people, despite what Josh thinks. People are funny. They just slip away.

- Forever? There's one thing wrong with forever. These days it seems to get shorter and shorter. That's the trouble with forever. Blink and you miss it.

- "It just made me think how great that must be-to go through your life without fear. Imagine how liberating that must be, Josh. Imagine how free that must make you feel. If you're not afraid of anything, then you can't be hurt, can you?"

- What she has awakened in me is the quiet pleasure you feel in the company of someone you know and like and enjoy being around.... I have come to treasure every second in her presence. I remember how much I used to love it. Being together.

- It's funny. You love something and then one day it's suddenly gone or changed or lost forever. But somehow that doesn't stop your love. Maybe that's how you know it's the real thing. When it doesn't come with conditions and get-out clauses, when it doesn't have a best-by date. When you just give your love and never stop giving it and know that you never will. That's when it is real. That's when they can never touch it or spoil it or take it away from you.
