Another Eco Bag Idea

I read this article on style.com that starting June 1st, French brand APC will use reusable totes instead of paper or plastic bags for your purchases. It wasn't mentioned if the initiative was for good or only for a certain time period. Kind of a cool idea but that got me thinking. Should major retailers follow suit and consider doing the same? Now with sooooo many 'eco' bags out there is it really still eco-friendly? Okay so it's no longer "paper or plastic" but now it's nylon, canvas, cloth materials. Are these 'green' manufactured? With the influx of all these eco bags, it might be just be a wash. The market is just flooded. What do you think? Do you religiously use your eco bags? Is it really working? Are they really producing less plastic / paper bags because of this?
