First, I'm going to talk about my afternoon at downtown Manhattan last Saturday with my sister-in-law & younger brother. My older brother dropped us off Canal St. which is practically Manhattan's China Town. The rest of the day would be spent on foot. It was crazy busy. I've been to the China Towns of LA, San Francisco, & our very own Binondo back home of course. They all are bustling with people and activity. There are loads of stores & stalls selling all sorts of merchandise which would of course be from China. Everything is manufactured in China these days. There are tons of faux designer bags on sale that people swarm to. Hehe! ;)
We went to the Apple Store along Prince St. Aaaah... I seriously am contemplating switching from PC to MAC. I tried out their Powerbooks & iBooks and I'm seriously in love. I've read nothing but good reviews on MAC online. The switch would definitely be an adjustment but they do offer free trainings for switchers so that's another good thing. And oh, add the iPod movement to that. I don't need to be convinced to get an iPod anymore. Frankly, I just can't afford one yet. ;)
Somewhere along Wooster or was that Spring St.? I forget. We went to an Adidas store that looked more like a warehouse. My guy friends back home would endlessly drool over the stuff they have. I really like their retro sneakers & bags! We also went to LV & Chanel. LV was filled with Japanese & Korean tourists. They really have a thing for status accessories. I find that quite interesting! :) In Chanel, I fancied this black leather watch that had a flower shaped face. It was gorgeous but it was in the thousands! That's why I merely fancied it. haha! :) At the Rafe Store along Bleeker St.,the Resort & Spring Collection was out and it made me woozy with highness. The fact that Rafe is a Filipino made me proud. hehe! It's cool that you can see Filipino touches to his designs. I like to describe them maybe as 'urban native'. He gives would be plain native bags an urban/modern twist to them. This, I think was manifested in his Biarritz line. The bags' bodies were made out of woven rattan. Recall those the seats of those yantok/rattan party chairs & grandma lounges from years back. When I can afford to buy a status bag by myself later on, his bags will definitely be one of the firsts that I'll get. Buy Pinoy after all! :)
As we made our way to Union Square on 14th St. along Broadway Avenue. We went to Tower Records at the Village first. My younger brother went mad over the Hed Kandi albums. The timing was great too since they were holding a 20% sale on each and every cd in the record bar. Good for us! More Hed Kandi albums to listen to!!! :) There was a protest rally going on in Union Square along with some dance performers. It was weird how "Bring the troops home!", dance music & the hustle & bustle of the people all blended together. After we went to Forever 21 (pure heaven if I may so myself), Strawberry & Filene's Basement, we made our way to the Subway station and road all the way up to 42nd St. right where the Port Authority was to take the bus back to Englewood.
So that's how that one good day in the City went. I can't describe how it feels but I love it. Period! ;)
Last Wednesday, we met up with my former OJT boss & family friend who now resides in Singapore. He was here for a regional meeting for a few days. He wanted to do some pasalubong & pabilin shopping for his kids and wife so we went to Jersey Gardens Outlet Stores. We looked for Bratz accessories for his daughter & Star Wars & PSP goods for his son. He already bought a bag for his wife who according to him was addicted to Coach. Women & their handbags! Can't do nothing about that. haha! ;) Then we moved on to Secaucus for him to buy some golf stuff for himself after which we had dinner at an Italian resto called Olive Garden. Food & service was great! I had this huge salad for dinner since I needed my veggie fix. When I asked the waiter/server to please separate the dressing from the actual salad so I could regulate the dressing, he looked at me with a smile and said that it was the first time that a customer asked for that specifically. He also liked how I used "regulate" for the dressing. We had a good laugh about that. For dessert, I had the Chocolate Lasagna which 'the waiter' recommended. It was heavenly. Even if I was stuffed from the all the bread & salad I ate, There's always room for dessert. hehe!
Anyways, the reason I wrote about this is because this is the boss that I really admire. Well, I've only had two real, main bosses in my life. He's the one from the multinational company where I had my OJT. To me, it's like he has it all. A good career, a good reputation, a good lifestyle, a great family & he's a good person pa. In a nut shell, I think his life is well-balanced. It's like it's perfect. I know, I know, whose life is perfect anyway? But, what's his flaw?? my bad! I shouldn't even think of what's wrong with him. I want to see the good in people after all. Sometimes it's just hard to believe. This is what I aspire for. Not to be the exact same person that he is of course. It's more of...I want to live a charmed life... That's it! ;)
The other day, a family friend dropped by our house. She just came from a trip to Manila. As usual, all talk was about Manila's negativity and then some. The crime, the safety, the pollution, the traffic, the poverty etc... it's frustrating. Yes, I left searching for greener pastures myself but a part of me will always love & miss Manila, negativity & chaos included. Call me a hypocrite, maybe I'm crazy, but I really wish people were more optimistic. It's already bad enough as it is, do we really need more pessimism? I don't know what I'm going on about here. At that moment, I just felt frustration again and worried about my friends which I care a great deal about back home.
okay. That's that!
